Megan Rapinoe thrashed English soccer
The USWNT star had grown unimpressed with the laughable funding for the Women’s soccer clubs in England. She talked about how they have overcome the same issue here. However, the fight in England has been going on for a long time. Billions of dollars are being invested in the expansion of the NWSL in the USA. The investment is showing results as well. The NWSL is continuing to grow in numbers and attracting more and more viewers each season.
She was talking about the glaring lack of funds for women’s soccer clubs in Europe. She said, “I think women’s football in England is the same as in America – it is so far behind because of what we’ve had to overcome in the lack of investment… It’s 2020. How long has the Premier League been around? And we’re only just seeing a club like Manchester United put effort and pounds towards a women’s team? Frankly, it’s disgraceful… I’ve had a few teammates go abroad and play, while I’m training and trying to keep fit in the hopes that eventually we’ll be out of this hellscape.”
