In 2019, Eden Hazard left Chelsea as one of the best soccer players in the world. The Belgian had the world at his feet at that stage. Every fan thought that a move to Real Madrid was just the missing piece of the puzzle to help him achieve new levels. However, things have definitely not gone according to plan. The winger is currently nowhere near being the best player in the world anymore.

Without a doubt, the former Chelsea star has faced one of the sharpest career drops in soccer history.

Injuries massively let Hazard down at Real Madrid

It’s safe to say that Hazard’s steep career downfall is all down to unfortunate and major injuries. The Belgium winger has been injured too many times since joining the La Liga giants. There’s no doubt about his talent, but Hazard has never been consistently fit enough to settle down into the squad. Recently, the Belgian picked up another injury and his injury count has now gone up to 18 since he moved to Spain.

Real Madrid acquired Hazard’s services for a club-record fee of about $180 million. With such a heavy price tag, it’s obvious that the fans would expect him to get going on the pitch immediately. But the 32-year-old is still struggling in his fourth season at the club. Hazard left England with 110 goals and 92 assists for Chelsea. Even world-class players struggle to keep up with numbers like that.

The Belgian’s injury list is never-ending. In each of the four years in Spain, he has picked up at least two major injuries. This has ultimately resulted in the winger not playing too many games for the La Liga giants. He has shockingly only managed to score seven goals and a handful of eleven assists in 73 games.

On top of all this, Hazard had a very sad and emotional end to his international career after a terrible display at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Hazard ended up retiring after a dismal World Cup campaign

Roberto Martinez’s Belgium and Eden Hazard had a dismal FIFA World Cup campaign in 2022. The Red Devils never managed to get past the group stage. Belgium managed just one win and a draw in their three group-stage matches. Hazard played in every game but failed to make a definite impact. He then reportedly decided that it was time to call it a day after a major rift in the dressing room.

The 32-year-old gave his fans an emotional goodbye via an Instagram post, where every fan respected the decision and lauded his past contributions to the Red Devils. However, the fans mutually felt that Hazard could have achieved so much more in his career if he would have just stayed fit enough.

His contract at Real Madrid runs till the end of the 2024 season. It’s unlikely that the La Liga giants will entertain a renewal at this stage. Hazard can also possibly end up joining Al-Nassr, where Cristiano Ronaldo currently is.
