Fans Rip Into Japanese Soccer Team After They Self-Destruct During Penalties Against Croatia at the FIFA World Cup 2022

Croatia is through to the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup 2022. A game of 120 mins went to penalties to decide the winner between Croatia and Japan. It was a sad ending to Japan’s hopes of making it to the next round of the competition. They had an incredible campaign but couldn’t find a winner in the game. Croatia and Japan played out a 1-1 draw after full-time. However, both teams failed to score in extra time and the game went to penalties. Croatia won 3-1 in penalties, thanks to a heroic effort from their goalkeeper Livakovic.
Japan started the game well and created some interesting chances in the first half. Their consistent efforts finally paid off when Daizen Maeda gave them the lead just before half-time. However, Croatia grew in the game after half-time and scored an insane equalizer through Ivan Perisic’s header. However, they managed to win through penalties.

The game was an end-to-end thriller with both teams, creating their fair share of chances. Japan, however, was the underdogs coming into the game. But they managed to beat the likes of Germany and Spain in the group stages and showed why they deserved to play the knockouts. Fans were served with a classic and they took to social media to react to the match.

Yoshida missed Japan’s third penalty, which went on to be their final one. Croatian goalkeeper Livakovic saved three of the four penalties against Japan to send Croatia to the QFs. Pasalic scored past Gonda to end the penalties 3-1 in the favor of Croatia. Fans were shocked at Japan’s penalties and took to Twitter to react to the misses.

Japan will now prepare for the AFC Asian Cup, set to happen in Qatar next year. Croatia, on the other hand, will play the winner of Brazil vs South Korea in the Quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup.
A total of five teams have qualified for the quarterfinals so far. England and France will face each other, while Netherlands and Argentina will lock horns Lusail. Croatia will play their next game in Al Rayyan.
