Rescuers find a race against time to save people who got stuck after a massive earthquake hit Turkey. Many people have lost their lives in one of the strongest earthquakes in recent memory. Moreover, ex-Premier League soccer player, Christian Atsu remains under the rubble, according to recent reports. Authorities saved several team members from the rubble as a search party continues to look for people who are missing.

A former Chelsea and Newcastle United player, Christian Atsu was one of the world’s promising talents. He now plays for the Turkish side Hatayspor as the soccer fraternity cannot understand the events that transpired during that day. Netizens took to Twitter to express their grief on the matter.

In one of the most devastating destructions in Turkey’s recent history, the 7.7 magnitude earthquake ripped the city open, forcing many people to lose their lives. Apart from Atsu, the club’s sporting director Taner Savut is also under the debris. Fans have poured their reactions on Twitter stating how the player would hopefully be alright.

One tweet stated, “God bless their souls and everyone else who’s facing this current disaster. I pray for their health, life and safety. Please, for everyone who’s in the affected areas seek refuge safely away from the disaster zones.”

Another tweet said, “We hope they come out safe.” In fact, Atsu scored his first goal for the club, just hours before the natural disaster happened as a tweet mentioned his efforts. The tweet stated, “Yesterday he scored a last-minute goal to give his team the win. Life is very difficult.”

According to reports from The Mirror, more than 1300 people lost their lives and reportedly 6000 people are injured after the earthquake. After the original earthquake, an aftershock with a magnitude of 7.5 hit the southern part of the region. As the earthquake happened in the early hours, many people were sleeping. Significantly, they heard the tremors in Jordan, Cyprus, Israel, Lebanon, and Egypt. It is one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent history.
