Emotions ran high at the weekend when Tottenham Hotspur humbled Manchester United. The Red Devils captain wasn’t impressed with the refereeing decisions during the game and demanded an apology over a contentious penalty decision. A Premier League icon, however, isn’t too impressed with the Portuguese national’s behavior.

The midfielder felt the referee deprived United of a penalty during the first half, which could have changed the course of the game. While referring to the apology issued by the referee to Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the week, in a clash against United, Fernandes demanded the same for the Mancunian club. This didn’t go down well with Chris Sutton, who questioned his leadership.

While speaking to Daily Mail, Sutton didn’t hold back. When the host asked whether the referee was the reason behind United’s loss, Sutton replied, “Absolutely Not.” Speaking of Fernandes’ comments over the referee, the former Chelsea player said, “Bruno Fernandes first and foremost needs to sort himself out and his team out rather than, you know, looking at referees and their decisions.”

Unimpressed with Fernandes’ leadership skills, Sutton said, “Bruno Fernandes, for me, shouldn’t be the captain of Manchester United. Absolutely not. He is not a leader. And that basically sums him up. It’s about taking responsibility as a captain. And the bottom line is his first two performances of the season from Manchester United, they looked like a testimonial team.”

Roy Keane wasn’t impressed with the club’s and the player’s performance. He labeled the win as ‘desperate.’ Calling the team ‘weak,’ Keane blasted the leadership. The former United superstar pointed out the misbalance in the midfield. He feels the Red Devils lack match-winners in the club, an area for improvement.

It will be interesting to see United’s response in the upcoming game. They play Nottingham Forest next at Old Trafford. United languishes in 12th position with three points. Amid all the drama around the club’s sale, it seems the news is dying now, and fans could see The Glazers continue.
