Erling Haaland struggled to score against Spain as Norway was knocked out of the Euro Qualifiers. Many experts were quick to blame the Manchester City striker for his performance. However, analyst Jan Aage Fjortoft feels that the Norwegian should not be blamed for the failure of the national team.

Erling Haaland has also struggled to score in the last few games for Manchester City. Still, the Norway striker has a goal every 100 minutes with his current club and also plays a role that goes beyond the number of goals.

Erling Haaland did not have a great international break. Norway again failed to qualify for the Euros after their 1-0 defeat against Spain. Soccer experts were quick to blame the striker for not giving his 100%. Jan Ange Fjortoft, however, speaking on people blaming Erling Haaland said,” He is not the main problem for Norway.”

The former Norway soccer star pointed out that Haaland has 27 goals in 28 games for the national team. He also stated that the rest of the team failed to support the Manchester City striker after defenders kept playing long-ball soccer, especially against Spain. The analyst further expressed that the rest of the team plays a defensive style of soccer, which sometimes leaves Haaland on his own against defenders.

Soccer experts, especially from Argentina, have said that in-form Julian Alvarez deserves to start over Haaland. It is because Alvarez scored goals for City before the international break. He has also continued his brilliant scoring form with the Argentina national team in the international break. However, what many don’t realize is the overall contribution of Haaland to the game and City’s tactics.

The Norway and Manchester City striker wins plenty of headers and makes runs that take opposition defenders along with him. This has helped players like Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku get plenty of space to score goals in the opposition box. Haaland is playing like a decoy runner when not scoring goals. He is likely going to start against Brighton in City’s first game after the international break. On the other hand, it will be interesting to see what role Alvarez plays in the game.
