As a manager, Arne Slot has won two trophies, both of them coming at Feyenoord. He won the Eredivisie in the 2022/23 season and followed it up with the KNVB Cup in 23/24. To be precise, the trophies don’t do the Dutchman justice. He took over a Feyenoord team that had come 5th in Eredivisie. The ‘Slot’ effect was visible in the first season as he led Feyenoord to 3rd place finish in the league and reached the finals of the UEFA Conference League.

He went better in the following season and led Feyenoord to its first league title since 2017. However, in the process, he did equal the club record of having managed the most European games (36).

Clubs managed and playing style

Arne Slot started his senior managerial career at Dutch club SC Cambuur in 2014 as the assistant manager. However, the club endured a poor season and as a result, the Dutchman was promoted as the interim manager. His spell at the club came to an end in 2017 as he left for AZ Alkmaar.

In his initial season, Slot worked as assistant manager to John van den Brom. The 45-year-old impressed and was appointed head coach in the 2019/20 season. However, the COVID pandemic disrupted the season and no title was awarded. AZ Alkmaar had some impressive matches the following season, notably a 1-0 win over Serie A giants Napoli. By this time, Feyenoord was already talking with the coach about a potential deal. The management at AZ Alkmaar was not impressed and sacked him eventually. Soon Arne Slot arrived at Feyenoord and had his most successful stint yet.
