The clock ticking on the 2024 edition of the Copa America. Teams across South America have started finalizing their squads. Hosts USMNT have a golden chance at the coveted title, with the team invited for the prestigious CONMEBOL tournament. While the team has some prominent names in their ranks, they could rope in another big name if everything goes as planned. Cincinnati FC star Luciano Acosta talked about his desire to play for the USMNT in a press conference, with the player going to enormous lengths to secure the move.

Acosta’s addition to their side could be a massive boost for the USMNT. The Argentine pipped fellow compatriot Lionel Messi to bag the MLS MVP award last season. According to reports, the Cincinnati skipper is close to earning his United States citizenship. It will be interesting to see if the ‘Stars and Stripes’ will provide the player with a platform in the coming months.

The Argentine had a great run with Cincinnati last year as he bagged 31 goal contributions in his 36 appearances for the side. Yet, his performances have failed to grab the attention of the Argentine national team. However, Acosta is not bothered by the snub with the player hoping to represent the USMNT in the 2024 edition of the Copa America.

Acosta addressed the media about a potential move to the USMNT during a press conference. “No, we’re in the process. We’re in the process. It’s coming along slowly. Even though I really want to be there, we have to take it one step at a time. We have to be patient. Everything has its own time. And well, maintaining the usual calm. I even tried to tell the president to help.”

Roping in Acosta could be a wise decision for the USMNT. While the team has some top talent in their ranks, the experienced midfielder’s presence will surely bolster their squad. Team USA will make their fifth Copa America appearance this year after being first invited to the tournament in 1993.
