“I Want Names”- Rio Ferdinand Furious With ‘Ridiculous’ Erling Haaland Mistake By Manchester United Higher Ups
Manchester United has undergone a substantial change after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. The club not only has lacked trophies in the last decade or so, but it’s also not producing greats like yesteryear. Players like David Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Ryan Giggs have only become past, but even their signings do not have much weight. However, after a recent revelation about the club scouts refusing to buy Erling Haaland twice, Rio Ferdinand blasts them, asking for names of higher management who were responsible.
During a recent podcast interview, Rio Ferdinand was asked about his thoughts on Manchester United’s decision to disregard Erling Haaland and underestimate his potential and future. The Englishman replied, “Haaland was there on a plate to have. We don’t take him. Jude Bellingham’s in the building and the A-list come out and we still don’t get him. So it says like the recruitment, like what the hell’s going on.” He continued, “I want names, I want names to these decisions like who’s making that decision,” being frustrated about the club’s situation.

This issue about not recruiting great players was recently brought to light by the club’s former legend and coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjær. He claimed that the club rejected his suggestion to buy Erling Haaland when he was easily available. Ole earlier spoke on Gary Neville’s podcast Overlap, saying, “I rang the club and said ‘You’ve got to sign this boy, he’ll be top class.’ That was June, July 2018, and they said no, they had enough reports on players.” to the surprise of many fans.
Moreover, Ole said the United higher-ups rejected his ambition to sign Erling Haaland. However, once they realized his talent, it became too late, with more rivals pitching in. In addition, it was claimed to be the same case for Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

Rio Ferdinand and Stephen Howson also emphasized how the club lacked the right approach in recruiting players. Regarding the club’s failure to sign Erling Haaland, he stated, “I think it just confirms that everyone says I don’t think you got to be rocket science, but recruitment has been a big issue at Man United. It’s but a lack of good recruitment.”
Howson also responded with criticism, stating, “I think that we overpay we overpay we, oversell and we don’t bring in identified Talent,” laying bare their under-par signings.
