Despite being eventful and dramatic, Inter Miami’s CONCACAF Champions Cup tie with Monterrey ended up being abysmal and forgetful. Though everyone expected an infuriated Lionel Messi to outclass the Mexican side, he and the Herons ended on the wrong side of history. Anyhow, after Monterrey cruised to the CCC semi-finals, the vanquished Messi and his former Barcelona pals lit up the locker room sentiment with valuable advice for the coming games.

Lionel Messi’s teammate Benjamin Cremaschi recently spoke to the press and addressed Inter Miami’s loss against Monterrey. He detailed how Miami’s senior players uplifted the mood in the dressing room during that otherwise forgetful night. “After our elimination against Monterrey, the experienced players in the locker room (Messi, Suarez, Busquets & Alba) told us that we have to stay focused and keep working,” said Benjamin Cremaschi, as per En Juego Sports.

Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and others did not just give these words of wisdom, but they have started to live up to these words. Leo Messi was at the epicenter of Miami’s come-from-behind win against Sporting KC in the recent MLS tie. The 8x Ballon d’Or winner first set up Diego Gomez with a long pass that shattered Kansas City’s defense. Thereafter, the Argentine scored a long-range screamer to gain the lead. Suarez completed the riot by scoring a winning strike at the death. While the Kansas City game saw Messi unleash the beast in him, certain soccer analysts wondered where this mettle was during the Monterrey clash.

During last day’s Futbol Americas episode on ESPN FC, soccer stars turned analysts, Herculez Gomez and Sebastian Salazar called out Lionel Messi for misfiring against Monterrey. They said they expected Messi to oust Monterrey after the Mexican side’s coach’s comments enraged him. Besides, Gomez and Salazar downplayed the Herons’ win against Sporting KC. They said Messi and Co. should have shown up big against a powerhouse like Monterrey instead of battering a relatively weaker side like Kansas City.

Anyhow, Inter Miami tops the MLS table in the East right now. Tata Martino’s side has two more games remaining in April on their calendar. It is paramount for Messi and his teammates to seize a win so that they continue their top-seeded run. However, Jordi Alba took a knock during the KC tie, risking a potential injury. Injuries to key players are a problem the Herons will have to address. If they don’t get beyond the same, Leo Messi and Co. will have to recurrently do pep talks to overcome many more losses.
