Argentinian shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez has not shied away from voicing his opinion. The World Cup winner has been very blunt with his takes and it seems like he does not want to stop anytime soon. In a recent interview, Martinez mocked the goalkeeping rule changes introduced by FIFA. The Aston Villa star was nonchalant while claiming it was too late to bring the new rules.

Martinez was booed by fans during the Ballon d’Or ceremony last month. The Yacine Trophy winner walked onto the stage to receive his award but was showered by boos from a section of the audience. The goalkeeper threw players off their game during the World Cup just before their penalties, which did not sit down well with a lot of French fans.

The Albiceleste goalkeeper was in his usual mood during a recent interview. During the interview, he was asked to lend his thoughts on the recent rules changes to FIFA’s existing goalkeeping guidelines. In reply, he said he did not care much, as he had done what he wanted to do.

“My thoughts on the new FIFA rule so goalkeepers don’t destabilize penalty kickers? It’s too late..[laughs] It’s done, it’s done! I got what I wanted to get. They can change the rules or what they want. It doesn’t affect me. I will continue to do my best for the National Team.”

Emiliano Martinez threw Aurelién Tchouaméni off his game

Martinez was the center of attention following his actions during the World Cup final. The goalkeeper played mind games with Aurelién Tchouaméni during the World Cup finals, which worked out in his favor. Martinez during the World Cup final held the ball in his hand as Tchouaméni came up to take a crucial penalty. However, instead of handing the Frenchman the ball, the goalkeeper tossed the ball away to the other side, making him fetch the ball.

The French midfielder was thrown off his game following the goalkeeper’s actions. Tchouaméni’s spot kick went awry as he missed the target, which allowed Argentina to run away with the game. Martinez, following the missed penalty, then danced in joy, mocking the midfielder, which did not sit well with the fans.
