Amid a successful spell at FC Barcelona, Joao Cancelo has responded to the reports of him having an attitude. Despite being a stalwart at Manchester City, the Portuguese player was let go by the 2023 Treble winners on loan to Bayern Munich and then to the Catalan club. However, the reasons provided for having to loan him didn’t go well with Cancelo claiming them to be ‘Lies’ and calling the club “ungrateful.”

Expressing that he never had any attitude problems at the club, Cancelo reportedly took a dig at Manchester City. In a recent interview with A Bola, the defender not only claimed the stories to be ‘lies,’ but also that he has “never been a bad teammate.” He claimed he “was robbed and assaulted at home,” yet the following day he “was playing against Arsenal.” He further added, “These are things you don’t forget, I left my wife and daughter alone at home scared to play…” claiming that he gave his best for the club.

As he continued to express his unhappiness, Cancelo further said, “At Manchester City, they were a bit ungrateful to talk about me like this, I’ve been an important player for them…”  reminding his contributions. The 29-year-old has a successful spell at the Etihad helping the team with his versatility.

What made Pep Guardiola leave Joao Cancelo out to FC Bayern?

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola was unhappy with Cancelo’s reaction according to reports. Pep said that his three-time Premier League-winning defender needed to play all the time hence another club, (Bayern Munich when he moved initially on loan) would suit him. A senior Spanish journalist Lu Martin also claimed that Cancelo had a high attitude and similar issues at Valencia where he could not stand being left out. However, Cancelo claims that he never had such problems and the club’s players Nathan Ake and Rico Lewis were a testament.

On the other hand, the Portuguese international has been a regular starter at FC Barcelona. Cancelo just missed two games this season due to health issues including a reported heart problem. He scored 4 goals and provided 4 assists for the Blaugrana which has resulted in Joan Laporta wanting to keep him for more time. Overall, despite all the success at City, looks like the Cancelo doesn’t want to return to the English Club.
