Jordan Henderson seems to have been caught in a transfer wildfire. Having left Liverpool just months ago, the veteran midfielder has again been linked with a return ticket to the Premier League. But an interesting twist has been reached in this narrative, as several reports suggest that the player is not thinking about an exit and is instead ‘committed‘ to a Steven Gerrard led-Al-Ettifaq.

This surprising report was by renowned Saudi Arabian journalist Nawaf Al-Aqeel, who has boldly refuted all rumors surrounding Jordan Henderson’s departure from the Roshn Saudi League. As per Al-Aqeel, the midfielder is 100% committed to the soccer project in the Middle East and has no plans to leave the club. Also, the 33-year-old is respected for his vital leadership role in the team’s locker room and he is happy where he is at the moment.

Al-Aqeel asserts that even if the player wants to leave or any other club is desperate to sign the Reds icon, Al-Ettifaq has notably established a high bar and won’t accept less than £10 million ($13 million) and beyond for any transfer offers, which is less than $15.55 million plus add-ons, a fee that they paid to Liverpool. Either way, this certainly offers a glimpse of Al-Ettifaq’s stance on his availability. Reportedly, the Magpies were interested in acquiring the services of the English Premier League-winning captain. However, do this season’s numbers make any case?

Notably, Jordan Henderson has played 19 games across all competitions for Steven Gerrard’s side, bagging five assists as well. However, Al Ettifaq is struggling, sitting at 8th with just 25 points. Captain Hendo will certainly be looking to bring his side back to the top. Perhaps this justifies the club’s eagerness to reinforce their squad, as they are closing in on a former Real Madrid star.

Jordan Henderson and Al Ettifaq set to welcome a new midfielder

Following a frustrating performance in the first half of the 2023-24 season, Steven Gerrard demanded new signings in the January transfer window. It seems they might be closing in on their first arrival, as former Real Madrid player Alvaro Medran is expected to join from Saudi’s Al-Taawoun. With barely six months remaining on his current contract, Al Ettifaq has effectively secured his services for a small transfer price.

Furthermore, personal arrangements have been made with Alvaro, who is anticipated to light up his new teammates. With nine assists and one goal in 17 league games this season, Medran is in excellent form at Al-Taawoun and has made a big contribution to his team’s current fourth-place standing, behind Al Hilal, Al Nassr, and Al Ahli.

One take at a time

I first kicked a soccer ball when I was 12. My early exposure to playing the sport earned me many accolades at the zonal and district levels. I still remember my first goal, where I scored a 90+5 minute header like Sergio Ramos did in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid.
