Manchester City wasn’t at their fluid best against Brentford. The Sky Blues did manage to win the game 1-0 but were far from convincing. And a big reason behind that was the absence of star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian maestro was strangely on the bench. Even worse, Guardiola did not even look to summon his services as Manchester City tried hard to break down Brentford’s defense. This caused a lot of speculation, with KDB’s recent injury history coming to the minds of many. Coach Pep Guardiola has given his update on the matter.

The Spanish tactician revealed in the post-match presser, “Kevin (De Bruyne), because he has niggles in his hamstring position, so I didn’t want to take any risk on him.” Yet, the situation is ‘okay’ per Guardiola. He revealed, “Kevin is okay, it’s more caution, prevention that I think. He didn’t feel comfortable, the doctor says a little risk and said okay. After five months off, we didn’t take any risk about that.”

Manchester City missed the Belgian wizard’s brilliance dearly, as Guardiola referenced his sublime pass in the previous encounter against Brentford. He elucidated, “But in this type of game, the second goal, for example, in Brentford is an assist from Kevin and you need this type of players.” It’s not just Guardiola, but every manager and team in the world would love to have a player with Kevin De Bruyne’s vision and creativity.

However, injuries have hampered the Belgian in the last two seasons. Following his unfortunate injury in the UCL final last year, KDB suffered a hamstring injury in August. The latest issue will again halt his momentum, but KDB doesn’t seem surprised by the injuries.

‘Playing every three days’: Kevin De Bruyne hints at the reason behind his recent injury troubles

Kevin De Bruyne recently expressed his annoyance with the cramped fixture schedule. He explained, “I don’t think people necessarily understand when you are playing every three days. It’s just, there’s no time to work on other things because you are just going from playing to recovery.” Moreover, the Belgian added that he has been doing this for the last 10 years.

KDB added, “I’ve been playing in the European Cup, national team. So I’ve always never had the time to either rest or work on something that I probably needed to work on.” At 32 years of age, the Manchester City playmaker is not at his peak physical condition. The latest hamstring niggle justifies KDB’s position regarding the schedule’s intensity.
