UEFA Champions League round of 16 games concluded on Wednesday. Chelsea, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Napoli have made it to the quarter-finals. But violence marred Wednesday night ahead of the soccer game between Napoli and Frankfurt. 

The violence resulted from traveling fans taking to the streets and throwing chairs and flares at Napoli riot police. Napoli ultra fans were also involved in the brawl that resulted in the chaos before the game. The first leg proved to be the catalyst for the incident in the city of Naples. Due to violence in the first leg, Napoli banned Frankfurt fans from entering the stadium and didn’t sell tickets to them.

Despite this, Frankfurt ultra fans visited the city of Naples, and chaotic scenes started. The chaotic scenes have made the soccer fraternity react, with the majority of fans condemning the fans, causing the ruckus ahead of the game. 

Soccer fans condemn the Napoli and Frankfurt fans for violence

A few fans on social media compared the incident to action movies. One fan wrote, “Looks like a transformers movie,” on Twitter, comparing the scenes in Naples to that in the film. Another fan thinks it’s a trailer for an action movie. 

Meanwhile, many fans condemned the actions of both sets of fans that resulted in the chaos. One of the fans criticized, saying don’t call yourself fans for acting violently. On the other hand, one social media user labeled the violent fans as moronic for destroying the beautiful city and hurting innocent people.

Fans also labeled the incidents as disgraceful and disgusting. One of the fans pointed out that soccer culture isn’t like this, and fans can cheer for their teams in other appropriate ways instead of destroying public property.
