Lionel Messi will be losing around 860k USD in salaries for the week he was suspended. Given the decision came on the brink of the transfer window and Messi has already rejected the contract extension, many believe this decision was nothing but a show of power. However, Messi’s former teammate Thierry Henry had a different theory.

PSG suspended Messi out of petty?

The former Barcelona legend Thierry Henry raised some big questions about Messi’s suspension. In a recent talk with the Goal, he expressed that the suspension might be linked to the place Messi chooses to visit rather than him missing training.

Henry said, “They hit a shot, maybe because he’s not going to stay. Or did the destination he went to affect their pride a little? But there were much more serious things that happened at PSG. Was Messi right? No, you don’t miss a practice. No one can miss training. It reminds me a bit of the episodes of Dallas, when J.R. [Ewing] tries to get [long-time nemesis] Cliff Barnes. But it’s always the same problems at PSG. This time, it’s Messi.

This isn’t the first instance of this unspoken rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Although just a theory from the Barcelona Veteran, fans seem to be skeptical of the reason given for a big suspension. Fans also think that given Messi will be leaving the club at the first chance he gets, this suspension didn’t have much effect on the legendary player apart from a near million dollars he’ll lose in salary.
