“Made Up of 723 Crap Footballers” – Hollywood Legend Tom Hanks Once Hilariously Disrespected His Favorite Premier League Club

Hollywood actor and Presidential Medal of Freedom winner Tom Hanks once hilariously mocked his favorite Premier League club. While speaking on a Jonathan Ross show in 2009, he revealed his support for the club but also named a weird reason to support the club. 

Aston Villa is a club with history in the Premier League, garnering the support of various celebs worldwide, added Hanks to the list. Although Hank failed to answer most of the questions about Villa on the show, ending up with a hilarious reply, sending the viewers into hysterics.

Tom Hanks shared how he became an Aston Villa fan

While promoting his 2009 film Angels and Demons, Hanks visited England. He was on the Jonathan Ross show, where he spoke about various aspects of film and his life and ended up trolling his favorite soccer club based in England. 

It all started when Hanks announced, “I am an Aston Villa supporter, and I found one in the United States.” When Ross asked about Villa’s manager, home ground, and players, Hanks replied, “I have no idea. Their home ground is the Villa Dome. Aston Villa team is made up of 723 crap footballers.”

Hanks also shared on the show how he started following the club. When he first heard of Aston Villa, the first thought that touched his mind was Aston Villa sounded like a lovely little place. It brought a big laugh from the crowd. He also visited the club and met the owners. 

Since Hanks has been supporting the club. He attended the Villa friendly in the US. He came out in support of the Villa fans when the team was relegated and pumped the supporters to hang on with the club. Hanks occasionally was seen wearing the claret and blue muffler. But is Hanks the only celebrity supporting Aston Villa?

Aston Villa, a club that was founded in 1874, plays at Villa Park since 1897. They are currently 12th in the table and have won seven league titles before FA rebranded the English league in 1992 to the Premier League. They have seen ups and downs in history and boast many celebs as their supporters.

Aston Villa has a big fan from the royal family, Prince William. William supports Villa as he wanted to be different from his friends, who support big clubs like Manchester United. Prince believes Villa is a historical game and has attended their games occasionally.
