In a surprising turn of events, Manchester United has made it clear that they will not participate in the highly controversial European Super League. Just a few hours ago, the EU Court of Justice ruled in favor of the Super League, preventing UEFA and FIFA from stopping teams from competing in it. However, Manchester United has taken a stand and aligned itself with UEFA citing its intention of staying ‘fully committed’.

In 2021, Manchester United was one of the six Premier League teams initially slated to participate in the 64-team competition. However, after significant fan backlash, they decided to distance themselves from Florentino Perez’s Super League. To this day, the PL side remains firm in its stance.

Following the news of the Super League receiving the green light, Manchester United wasted no time releasing a statement. They made it clear that the Red Devils will not be participating in the Super League and also asserted their commitment to UEFA competitions. The statement read, “We remain fully committed to participation in UEFA competitions, and to positive cooperation with UEFA, the Premier League, and fellow clubs through the ECA on the continued development of the European game.” This unequivocal declaration leaves no room for doubt—Manchester United will not be a part of the European Super League.

The absence of a team with a prestigious heritage, such as Manchester United, is a significant drawback for Florentino Perez’s project. Additionally, Spanish side Atletico Madrid and German giants FC Bayern Munich have declined to participate in the European Super League.
