The USWNT has enjoyed decent success over many years. They are the only side to win the tournament most often, thus lifting four World Cups. It is indeed a proud moment for the whole nation as they enjoy the limelight in soccer after fighting for great causes.

Over the years, the ladies haven’t received the honors they should, even after giving their everything on the pitch. They were being paid less than the men’s national team, who hadn’t enjoyed much success, while the women won the World Cup. But after the WNT fought with the US soccer federation to get equal pay as men, they earned that victory.

It was a historic moment for the women as they won the lawsuit for equal pay, thus signing the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Many were supportive of them during their fight, including a popular hip-hop superstar. None other than Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg supported the USWNT

Among the list of many renowned figures, famous rapper Snoop Dogg also supported the ladies’ fight for equal pay. Back in 2019, Snoopy shared a clip on his Instagram and demanded US soccer give the WNT equal pay.

“Shout out to the USA women’s soccer team for winning their fourth World Cup, but what I want to talk about is they only get $90,000 per player but the men get $500,000 per player. The sorry a** f—ing men from the U.S. soccer team, they ain’t ever won s—, ain’t gonna ever win s—, can’t get out the f—ing first round.”

“Pay them ladies! Pay them girls what they worth. The women should be getting $500,000 per athlete. Snoop Dogg says so,” he added. Those words were highly critical, however, the 51-year-old wanted to get the ladies the pay they deserve.

Moreover, the rapper is quite fond of the sport and showed full support for USWNT. He was also featured in a Netflix documentary called Coach Snoop. It was made after he founded his youth soccer league to help young people who hail from tough backgrounds.

Not the only superstar to support equal pay

The fight for equal pay wasn’t won alone, as it took a collective effort from everyone to make it possible. Of course, the efforts of USWNT starlets, Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan, cannot be neglected. Both soccer luminaries went the extra mile to get what they deserved.

At the end of the lawsuit, a $24 million settlement was made in February that will be paid to the WNT. This was actually for the back payments for previous World Cup prize money. A deal was signed by the US soccer authorities during the 2-1 friendly against Nigeria at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Indeed, it has been a long journey for the USWNT, as they finally won the fight with collective effort.
