Inter Miami will face Philadelphia Union in the Leagues Cup Semi-final at Subaru Park. During the press conference, Gerard Martino, the gaffer, clarified Lionel Messi‘s comments, admitting that there is “nothing left to achieve,” for the Argentine. Evidently, Martino sounded positive and excited to take on Jim Curtin’s side.

Union needs to improve their defense if they want to contain Messi. Having scored eight goals and provided three assists in the Leagues Cup, the Zolos have a significant task at hand. This demonstrates that even after winning almost every soccer credential and accolade, Messi is determined to win the Cup for Beckham’s side.

Speaking to the media during the presser, Martino said, “There is a fundamental change, which is to be able to shed the burden that for him (Messi) was surely always a longing, a need, to win the World Cup with the Argentine National Team.” The Head Coach further emphasized that after winning the World Cup, the Argentine international is much ‘calmer and happier.’

Speaking of the perks of the league and how that affects leadership, he continued, “The United States allows you to continue working in soccer, but within a framework of normality that you don’t find elsewhere.” The arrival of Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, with new comrades joining soon, has been at the core of success for Inter Miami.

“There is a part of his change that I don’t necessarily link with the World Cup; I don’t know if it’s after the Copa America. It has to do with the leadership he displays on the field, not only in soccer, as we saw during the World Cup,” said Martino. The Argentine international was the backbone of the team, leading the country to two World Cup finals and finally winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, bringing the trophy back to South America after thirty-six years.

“The National Team (Argentina) has undergone a significant transformation since the arrival of the other Lionel (Scaloni). I see Messi with the same desire to compete and win. It’s not for me to explain, but I see him much calmer and happier,” said Martino.
