“There is a part of his change that I don’t necessarily link with the World Cup; I don’t know if it’s after the Copa America. It has to do with the leadership he displays on the field, not only in soccer, as we saw during the World Cup,” said Martino. The Argentine international was the backbone of the team, leading the country to two World Cup finals and finally winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, bringing the trophy back to South America after thirty-six years.

“The National Team (Argentina) has undergone a significant transformation since the arrival of the other Lionel (Scaloni). I see Messi with the same desire to compete and win. It’s not for me to explain, but I see him much calmer and happier,” said Martino.
