Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand seems to be convinced that his club is moving in the right direction after Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS’ merger. At the heart of Ferdinand’s conviction is the INEOS-led signing of Omar Berrada as the club’s new Chief Executive. Berrada moved to the other Manchester club shortly after he called it a day at the Etihad. The veteran defender said, “This could potentially be one of our best January signings. I spoke to some guys who are at City. And they can’t believe we’ve got him“.

They think that wow he has done so much in the game and at different levels. And he has been successful and is a really good sharp signing for us,” Rio Ferdinand asserted on his YouTube channel. Years after his departure from Old Trafford, Ferdinand continues to be vocal and concerned about the key developments of the club. The player-turned-pundit thinking Berrada’s move is more important than any player signing proves that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. are giving the Manchester United faithful what they badly wanted. The Red Devils icon also jokingly asked Pep Guardiola if he thinks Omar Berrada will do great at Old Trafford.

Without a doubt, the master tactician will miss Berrada’s services. Berrada joined Manchester City as an executive in 2011 after he left Barcelona. Later, when he assumed the soccer operations chief’s role, he spearheaded the club’s roster revamp. It was him, who facilitated Erling Haaland‘s move to Etihad, despite intense competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona. What happened afterward is now history. Likewise, the newly appointed CEO could rewrite history for the Red Devils on the other side of town. Let’s examine how.

Why Omar Berrada’s move to Manchester United is considered a ‘sharp’ one

Omar Berrada begs to differ from his predecessor Richard Arnold. The former CEO was not involved in sporting matters of the club. Arnold had passed on those responsibilities to John Murtough. Richard Arnold did so because he was not conversant with that area. However, Omar Berrada comes with years of relevant experience at powerhouses like Barcelona and Manchester City. Ratcliffe also insisted that a club’s CEO must be conversant with sporting matters, which is the primary function of a club.

Besides, his expertise in transfers will prove fruitful for Manchester United, which badly needs a roster revamp. Now, boss Erik ten Hag has the veto regarding the club’s transfers. But quite a few transfers under ten Hag have gone awry. However, Berrada seems to have already taken up the transfer business on his shoulders. He said that the Devils will only move on from Harry Maguire if they find the right replacement in terms of age and experience. Furthermore, the club will let go of 19-year-old starlet Dan Gore. Meanwhile, Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford too is in dubiety. What are your thoughts on Omar Berrada’s signing? Do you agree with Ferdinand? Tell us in the comments below.

My journey as a sports aficionado was not colored by soccer initially. The 2006 FIFA World Cup, however, changed me, as I fell in love with the beautiful game. From cheering on Real Madrid to channeling an inner analyst with my pals during every other World Cup and kicking the ball timelessly, soccer is now a therapy for me with boundless conversations.
