Manchester City forward Erling Haaland played a full 90 minutes in the club’s 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday night. But the weekend prior to the game, the player was grieving over the loss of his grandmother, Tone Rasdal. In fact, her death took place on the same day that Haaland played against Everton in the Premier League. It is not known if the athlete was aware of his grandmother’s death during that game. Rasdal was the mother of his father, Alfie Haaland. She took her last breath peacefully at age 80 on Saturday.

An obituary marking Rasdal’s passing stated: “Our dear mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Tone Rasdal died peacefully today, aged 80.” Reportedly, she passed away while residing in the Sivdaheimen nursing home located in Bryne. Her funeral will take place next week.

Rasdal had four children with her partner, Astor Haaland. Her four children included Alfie, who went on to become a Premier League star, featuring for Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, and Man City. According to the Norwegian website ‘Dagbladet’, Rasdal was a teacher and a principal at a school in the region close to where she passed away.
