LA Galaxy has had some of the best players around the globe, including the likes of David Beckham, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robbie Keane. Those elite European stars have helped the MLS side become one of the best in the league. Even today, the team features some of the best talents in the world.

During the Beckham era, LA Galaxy underwent some of the most important years of its formation into a soccer powerhouse in the country. The former England international signed for the MLS side back in 2007. After spending successful yet controversial years at Manchester United, the player went to Real Madrid and later opted for a move to the US.

Following those years, the midfielder enjoyed several loan spells with AC Milan until he signed for PSG in 2013. Overall, he made 124 appearances for the Galaxy, bagging 20 goals, 42 assists, and four major silverware. However, the signing of a new soccer sensation has once again grabbed the attention of Galaxy fans.

Beckham has played a huge role in the LA Galaxy’s success. Moreover, the former skipper is also responsible for a generational talent, who is currently playing for his former side.

Former Barcelona starlet Rique Puig is bossing the midfield of the LA Galaxy. After spending tough years at his former side, the midfielder joined the MLS giants last year. Since then, he has become a crucial member of the squad.

Furthermore, the club has even recently announced the youngster as a designated player. All thanks to the classic “designated player rule,” also known as the “Beckham rule”.

The rule allows MLS franchises to sign three players that would be considered outside their salary cap. This is done either by offering high wages to the player or by paying the transfer fee.

The rule is named after David Beckham, as he was the first player to get signed by an MLS franchise. He penned a five-year deal that gave him $6.5 million per season.

Puig had high hopes after the arrival of Xavi to the team. However, the player failed to impress either of the coaches, which resulted in his transfer. The 23-year-old came through the ranks of La Masia and made his debut at age 19.

The Spanish midfielder was touted as a highly talented midfielder, but couldn’t get his place in the starting XI. Hence, this rule has helped Puig who was once considered to lead the Barca midfield, which is now led by the likes of Pedri and Gavi.

Perhaps destiny was meant for Puig in the MLS, who has instantly made an impact at the club. Moreover, soccer fans around the world are hailing the youngster for joining the club. Here are some of the reactions from fans.
