As the AC/DC song goes, “It’s a long way to the top, if you want to rock and roll.” And for Wrexham AFC it is a long way to the top. Especially if they want to get to the Premier League. And now renowned podcaster Mark Goldbridge reckons they could….. wait for it….. even win the Premier League title! Goldbridge has been speaking about Wrexham on the latest episode of his podcast. In the new episode, Goldbridge suggests that the Welsh club could win the Premier League even before established top-flight side Tottenham Hotspur.

Wrexham’s journey has been rather remarkable. The club’s meteoric rise from the lower tiers of English soccer to the EFL League Two has been well documented. The club rose from the fifth division after impetus from Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny. But can they make it to the Premier League?

Speaking to other guests including former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster, Goldbridge said on his podcast, ““But my point is, who will win the Premier League first? Wrexham or Spurs? I’m not doing this to wind Spurs fans up. I genuinely think, an intelligent person can see what I’m talking about.
Wrexham have got a better chance of winning the title before Spurs.” This statement would no doubt draw a lot of attention.

“Yes it’s going to take 5 or 6 years for Wrexham to go. They sponsored by bl**dy Tiktok. You played for them Ben. But you know. Their trajectory is like an airline!”, Goldbridge said while talking to former Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Ben Foster who recently retired after his last stint at Wrexham was also rather surprised. While this is perhaps a bit of a dig at Spurs fans, despite Goldbridge stating otherwise it’s also a rather bold statement made by the podcast host.

Wrexham are in the EFL League Two( fourth-tier) currently so it’s surely a huge ladder to climb. This is despite their star Hollywood owners.

Wrexham make average start to EFL League Two season

However, for the Welsh club, it’s been a slow start to life in EFL League Two with plenty of hits and misses. Wrexham are currently in 16th place in the EFL League Two table and they’ve only notched up 6 points from 5 games played so far.

They have scored 14 goals and conceded 14 goals, making their goal difference zero at the moment. This could perhaps be down to the injury to their star striker Paul Mullin.

But the Red Dragons do have the remainder of the season to make their way up the table. As reported earlier, home tickets at the Racecourse Stadium are quite expensive. This was echoed by former Olympian and Red Dragons fan Gareth Evans. But that hasn’t stopped Wrexham from recording their highest-ever attendance recently.

While the club’s aim is to secure promotion to EFL League One, the mood is certainly quite buoyant at the Racecourse Stadium. And it’s surely going to be an interesting season for Wrexham AFC and its fans.
