‘Sacked’ Wayne Rooney Exposes Tom Brady & Birmingham City Owners’ False Promises- “Didn’t Give Me the Opportunity”

Wayne Rooney had a lot riding on his shoulders as he returned to England last year. The former Manchester United star was appointed the head coach of Championship side Birmingham City in October 2023, with fans elated at his appointment. However, we all know how things turned out, right? Rooney had a disastrous run with the club that saw him get sacked in less than three months in charge of the club!

The Englishman’s time at Birmingham City, since then, has been buried as a mistake that no one wants to talk about. Well, until now, that is! Wayne Rooney was present on ‘The Overlap’ earlier this week, where he discussed his time with the club, voicing his frustrations about Tom Brady and the other club owners’ failure to deliver on their promises.

Wayne Rooney stated, “I think you are always looking for momentum. And I think the first win is obviously important. Obviously, in the first five games, we didn’t get that. Then there was the international break. Before that, I went on to speak to the owners on how they wanted the team to play and how I wanted the team to play.”

He then added, “We were all aligned with what we wanted. And I think one thing we knew was we needed players quick in January. So that was what really me (my) disappointment that he didn’t give me the opportunity to bring in players. Because that was a part of the discussion and we knew we needed them.”

While one could argue about Wayne Rooney’s point, the manager’s poor spells haven’t done him any favors over the years. Apart from his stint at Derby Country, the Englishman had horrendous runs with DC United and Birmingham City. The player-turned-manager, following his run with the club, has taken his time away from managerial duties as he ponders on the next step in his career.

Well, if the past years are any indication, being a manager isn’t Wayne Rooney’s calling! Following his sacking, the ex-Birmingham boss has been spending time with his family as of late. However, Rooney has assured his fans that he will return after a brief break. Sadly, his inferior resume doesn’t invoke confidence, which could leave him out of a job for an extended period. But as the case stands, being a manager isn’t the only job available on his hands!

In recent years, multiple ex-players took up different roles at broadcast stations around the world. Wayne Rooney could be the next in line with the player’s wealth of knowledge, making him a great pundit. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Englishman sticks with his guts and springs back up as a manager down the line!
