Reigning Saudi League champions Al Ittihad today plays Al Wehda, flagging off the 10th edition of the Saudi Super Cup. The 2024 edition will be in adherence with the four-team format- which was adopted from the 2022-23 season. This Saudi Super Cup will mark Cristiano Ronaldo‘s first appearance in the tournament with Al Nassr. Let’s find out more about the coveted tournament that kicks off in Abu Dhabi today.

Since its inception in 2013, the Saudi Super Cup was played in a two-team format pitting the winners of the previous year’s Saudi Pro League and the King’s Cup. From its last edition, the Super Cup has also featured the runners-up of the competitions mentioned above.

Courtesy of their Saudi Pro League win in the 2022-23 season, Al Ittihad booked a spot in the 2024 Saudi Super Cup. Ittihad’s semi-final rivals, Al Wehda made it to the Super Cup because they were the runners-up in last year’s King’s Cup. Al Hilal ensured a berth in the 10th Super Cup after winning last year’s King’s Cup by beating Al Wehda. Meanwhile, the Cristiano Ronaldo-led Al Nassr qualified for the tournament because they were the runners-up in last year’s Saudi Pro League.

Speaking of the venues of this year’s Super Cup, the Al Ittihad-Al Wehda tie will take place in the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi will host the Al Hilal-Al Nassr tie tomorrow. Thereafter, the final will also take place in the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium. Notably, this is the first time the tournament is taking place outside Saudi Arabia.

Past winners of the Saudi Super Cup

Al Ittihad is the most recent winner of the Saudi Super Cup. They defeated Al Fayha in last January to win their first-ever Super Cup title. Now, Karim Benzema and Co. are back to defend the silverware. Al Fateh, Al Ahli, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr have all previously won the Super Cup besides Al Ittihad. Al Hilal is the tournament’s most successful side with three titles to their credit. Al Nassr has featured four times in the competition’s final, but they won only once. Al Wehda on the other hand is featuring in the Super Cup for the first time in the franchise’s history.

Streaming Details

The tournament’s semi-finals and the final are available for streaming internationally on Shahid. Fans in the US can also watch Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema’s action on Fubo, Fox Sports.com, and Fox Deportes. The Al Ittihad-Al Wehda clash will kick off on Sunday at 1 PM ET. Meanwhile, the Al Hilal-Al Nassr tie will kick off on Monday at 3.30 PM ET. The final will take place on Wednesday at 1.30 PM ET.
