Serena Williams and her husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian became part of the newly founded Angel City FC in 2020. The LA-based team plays in the National Women’s Soccer League and played its debut season in 2022. The women’s soccer team, which was co-founded by Hollywood star Natalie Portman, grabbed massive attention.

The team was founded with the goal of increasing women’s soccer exposure and providing appropriate pay for the athletes. Candace Parker, another high-profile member of the Angel City ownership group, joined the team with her daughter as an investor. Parker had previously played alongside Brittney Griner in Russia for UMMC Ekaterinburg. They were also teammates for the US national team.

Alexis Ohanian’s reaction to Candace Parker’s new venture

As one of the biggest investors in Angel City FC, Alexis Ohanian had a very short but very sweet reaction to the news. Ohanian took to Twitter and said: “Football is a Family Affair in Angel City”.

Candace Parker has been a Los Angeles icon since 2008 when she was drafted by the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. Parker helped the team win the WNBA championship in 2016. Now, Parker has given back to the city of Los Angeles in a different way, by joining Angel City FC as an investor.
