The US Women’s National Team kicked off an all-important year with the inaugural CONCACAF W Gold Cup today. The team, led by Lindsay Horan, took on the 107-ranked Dominican Republic in the opener, with Alex Morgan on the bench. The USWNT completely dominated the game, scoring 2 goals in the first half and three in the second. It was Olivia Moultrie’s day, as she scored two goals, along with other goals by Lynn Williams, Jenna Nighswonger, and Alex Morgan. However, their performance received mixed reactions considering the ease of the fixture.

The USWNT entered the competition as the champions of the CONCACAF W Championship. However, they will be taking on tougher teams like Argentina and Mexico. Even though the result may not have excited some fans, many of them were impressed with the start.

Now with an emphatic victory in the opener, the USWNT has made a statement to Argentina, whom they take on in the next game. 18-year-old Moultrie, along with the NWSL champion Purse, will look to dunk on the Albiceleste’s defense later this week.
