Al Nassr made a number of big signings in the transfer market in order to improve their squad for the season. They successfully reinforced their defensive third with the addition of Spanish international Aymeric Laporte from Manchester City, with Cristiano Ronaldo in the roaster. In the midst of his transfer to the Saudi side, a light-hearted message from the 29-year-old defender to his teammates resurfaced.

Laporte was a highly productive central back for the treble winners for six years, demonstrating his talent in the defense. Consequently, soccer fans were stunned by the former City defender’s decision to join Al Nassr this season after a lucrative deal was on the tables from the Saudi side. In addition, a sports outlet remembered his time in Manchester City when he shared a funny instance with Erling Haaland after a Manchester Derby last season.

Laporte was vocal in expressing the youth forefront of his former club during his time in the Premier League. He highly regarded players like Phil Foden and Erling Haaland for their impact on the team and their ability to win games in an ecstatic fashion.

In one such instance, the Spanish center-back, while signing the match ball after the game, penned the message, “I have signed more balls for your hat tricks than contracts”. This was an attempt by the former Athletic Bilbao center-back to appreciate the goal-scoring exploits of Erling Haaland, who scored a hat-trick against Manchester United in a 6-3 victory in October 2022.

This was a testament to Laporte’s time with Manchester City throughout the seasons. The impact he made was essential to the team’s success in clinching four out of five Premier League titles under Pep Guardiola. However, he decided to take his soccer journey in a new direction this season, seeking a new challenge outside of European leagues after achieving great success with the English side.

Aymeric Laporte joined the Knights of Njad for a transfer fee of $30 million and a weekly salary of $505,000 for the 2023-2024 season. This was the sixth signing for Al Nassr after Sadio Mane, Marcelo Brozovic, Alex Telles, Seko Fofana, and Otavio with the aim of bolstering the squad with European talent alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Previously, Laporte was an essential part of Manchester City, making 180 appearances and winning 13 major trophies with the English club.

Although the Spanish defender fell down pecking the order last season with the likes of Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake. As it stands, Al Alami Al would be a better fit for Laporte to continue his solid defensive instincts in the Arab soil this season.
