Twitter is making rounds for its latest decision. It started a blue check as a verification future in 2009 when a former baseball player sued the company for the imposter accounts. Since then, it has become a symbol of status and authority. It was a free feature until Elon Musk decided to make it paid after the takeover. Now the fees required to be verified are more than getting an NWSL subscription a year.

Elon Musk has removed the blue checks from the accounts of many celebrities and athletes. It has started getting responses from those who have lost the verification mark. One of the TV hosts has taken to Twitter to inform fans that the charges for getting the verification mark are way more than watching WNBA and NWSL.

Megan Reyes took to Twitter to share the differences in a yearly subscription for Twitter verification, WNBA, and NWSL. Reyes wrote“For $114.99/year, you can pay for a blue check mark. For $24.99/year, you can pay for the WNBA League Pass. And for $49.99/year, you can pay for Paramount+ and stream NWSL games. Spend less, get more!!”

Women’s sports tournaments are growing in the US. Still, there’s more work to do. TV viewership needs to be improved to bring in more money to the women’s sports leagues. It will help raise the prize money for the various leagues with improved sponsorships. Reyes did the same by urging the fans to watch women’s sports like WNBA and NWSL instead of paying for Twitter verification.
