After their recent loss to West Ham United in the Premier League a few minutes ago, social media brutally trolled Manchester United and its manager Erik ten Hag. The supporters are surprisingly happy that Cristiano Ronaldo has left the club. A former Norway player and current pundit, Jan Aage Fjortoft on X wrote, “Thank God they got rid of @Cristiano.” Manchester United’s most expensive signing this season Rasmus Hojlund has also been ineffective until now.

The team has not only lost game after game but also lost in such a way that the stats have shocked fans. The team stands on the list of clubs that have scored the least number of goals this season in the Premier League. The Red Devils have scored just 18 goals in 18 matches and are placed 6th in the lowest-scoring team position. No wonder ten Hag is the subject of such ridicule!

Fjortoft takes a dig at Manchester United and is grateful that they left Cristiano Ronaldo

Things do not seem to work for Manchester United, despite their attempts to sign expensive players. Fjortoft feels that Cristiano Ronaldo leaving for Saudi Arabia was a blessing rather than remaining at Old Trafford. The Portuguese captain left last year after his contract was terminated in the aftermath of his interview with Piers Morgan. Ronaldo was repeatedly benched early last season, leading to a spat with ten Hag, leading him to give an explosive interview with the British journalist.

The striker is the leading scorer in the Saudi Pro League 2023–24, scoring 17 goals in 16 games with 9 assists. Ronaldo had a successful homecoming at United earlier in the season, scoring 24 goals for the club in the 2021–22 season. But things took a drastic turn subsequently in the second half of 2022, with the 38-year-old hardly scoring for the club.

On the other hand, United are getting lower and lower on the table this season. The club’s 2-0 loss against West Ham United today has dropped them from 6th to 8th in the table. Unable to score this year, the club is suffering from below-par aggression and piercing power.

United’s $90 million signing, Hojlund, has not scored a single goal in the Premier League. The player has shown promise for the club after scoring five goals in six games in the UEFA Champions League. But Hojlund is not getting adequate support from other players, according to a few experts.

United’s was favored by Marcus Rashford’s form despite losing Ronaldo last season. The midfielder scored 30 goals for them, but this year turned out to be a desert for the 26-year-old, with just 2 goals. With no one to provide goals, Erik ten Hag is searching for answers and will hope they get them in this January transfer window.

One take at a time

Growing up in a sporting background, I found a passion for soccer through the remarkable 2002 World Cup-winning Brazilian football team. Watching the Premier League where Thierry Henry-starring ‘Invincible’ Gunners and Sir Alex Ferguson’s glorious Manchester United had ruled, I had my heart set on Arsenal. However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
