“There Were the Mines Laid by Cristiano Ronaldo” – Manchester United Coach Erik ten Hag Claimed To Have Walked ‘Through Minefields’ To Sort Out Team’s Mess

Erik Ten Hag, the coach of Manchester United, has had to dodge “mines” set by Cristiano Ronaldo, according to two of his close friends. Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure from Manchester United in November last year caused quite a stir.
The now Al-Nassr striker was a big loss for the team, but United has since then been going back on track. After a not-so-great start to the 2022-23 season, United’s recent string of success is all thanks to their coach, Erik Ten Hag. The Dutchman led United to their first trophy in six years in the form of the Carabao Cup.

Former Brighton midfielder, Hans Kraay, is a good friend of the Dutch coach. The former soccer star who has also played with Erik Ten hag has revealed that the journey to United’s recent success has not been easy for the 53-year-old.
Erik Ten Hag dodged “mines” set by Cristiano Ronaldo
Hans Kraay revealed, “Erik deserves this success at United. People do not realize that he had to walk through minefields at United in his first five months”. He further added, “It was chaos at the club for a start – and there were the mines laid by Cristiano Ronaldo. Erik went to United because he saw the potential and the challenge”.

He also revealed that Dutch National team coach Louis van Gaal also advised Ten Hag to turn down United’s offer. “You know what Van Gaal said to Ten Hag, don’t you?” Kraay said. “Erik, it is one big mess at United, don’t go there.”

“But Erik did, he did not mind sorting it all out and didn’t mind walking around Cristiano’s landmines,” Hans Kraay said. It is unclear exactly what Kraay is referring to when he speaks of the “mines” Ronaldo laid for his former team. But it is clear that the journey to success has been difficult for Ten Hag.
