“They Killed My Father” – Diego Maradona’s Son Makes Shocking Claim 3 Years After His Death

The whole of Argentina missed its legendary soccer player, Diego Maradona, after winning the 2022 World Cup. Maradona, who is famous for his 1986 World Cup heroics, passed away in November 2020. But the icon’s death has now been brought under speculation after his son made a shocking claim, including, “They killed my father.”

El Pelusa had been suffering from constant health issues for many years. The player was reportedly caught for drug use after failing a test in 1991. The player subsequently had issues with alcohol abuse, with repeated risks to health. However, three years after his passing, Maradona’s son is still waiting for the country’s justice system to provide an answer.

Diego Maradona reportedly passed away after heart failure days after a brain surgery. But now, in a bold assertion, his son, Diego Maradona Jr., claims that his father was killed. Speaking on an Italian program, ‘Verissimo’, he said, “They killed my father. It’s not my job to say who did it; I have my own idea, but I can’t say it. I am convinced that this should not have ended like this. (…) They abandoned him to his fate when something could have been done.”

The medical staff who gave him home care have been accused by the soccer legend’s son of being careless and providing substandard treatment.  However, Maradona Jr., who fought with his mother to stay with his father, doesn’t want to give up until he gets justice. He also stated, “There is an open investigation. We have great faith in Argentine justice. I made a promise: until the last day of my life, I will fight for justice.” The 37-year-old still feels the void after his father’s loss.

Tributes to the great Diego Maradona

Considered one of the finest soccer players in the world, Maradona is still respected by many greats of the game. Lionel Messi dedicated his 8th Ballon d’Or to his country’s icon, saying that El Diego was the person who would be the happiest to see them win the World Cup.

Maradona single-handedly won the 1986 World Cup, scoring five goals and providing five assists. Even the late great Pele wrote, “Many people loved to compare us all their lives. You were a genius who enchanted the world. A magician with the ball at his feet. A true legend.”
