Unexpected setbacks often lead to remarkable comebacks. Wrexham AFC knows this well, as they recently faced a $630,000 transfer deadline day debacle. In a twist of fate, however, they’ve rebounded with a free agent, a signing that has Phil Parkinson buzzing.

Wrexham, who were eager to secure the services of Luke Armstrong, had orchestrated a deal worth $630,000. But, as deadline day arrived, it came with a harsh dose of reality. The EFL declared that the official paperwork for the transfer arrived a bit late, which in turn collapsed the imminent arrival of Armstrong. Although Ryan Reynolds and Wrexham suffered an unexpected blow in their fight for promotion, they soon rolled up their sleeves and got back to work.

The Red Dragons eventually were able to put an agreement in place for veteran Scotland international striker, Steven Fletcher. The arrival of free agent, Steven Fletcher offered a silver lining to Wrexham’s clouded transfer window. It didn’t take long for the former Stoke City star to leave an impression, as the striker’s quality seemed promising enough to boss Phil Parkinson.

As reported by the Leader, Parkinson couldn’t hide his delight at Fletcher’s move, and said, “I am very pleased with the signing of Steven. Obviously we had a set-back on transfer deadline day but as I have said many times, if we get set-backs it is ‘okay, how are we going to resolve that?’, and I feel we have resolved it with a really good signing.”

The gaffer recognized Fletcher’s resilience and quality, that made him shine at his former club, Dundee United. Parkinson’s eagerness to bolster the attacking ranks was clear, as he continued by saying, “You can never have enough strikers at your disposal, and Steven showed that he is going to make a big contribution.”

With the return of star striker Paul Mullin, Wrexham will be aiming for another shot at promotion to EFL League One. Also, with the addition of Steven Fletcher in their attack, the Red Dragons will surely be looking forward to the two forming a partnership.

Mullin’s strike partnership with Fletcher could boost Wrexham’s promotion hopes

Mullin, who had been sidelined due to a serious injury sustained during a preseason friendly against Manchester United, is back in action. His partnership with Fletcher holds the promise of something truly exciting. With Fletcher’s experience and Mullin’s goal-scoring prowess, Wrexham’s attacking lineup is set to strike up the opposition’s defense.
