Cristiano Ronaldo‘s highly anticipated return went up in smokes last night. The Portuguese superstar struggled to find his momentum against Al Hilal in the last clash of the Riyadh Season Cup. The Al Nassr skipper, despite multiple opportunities, could not find the back of the net as Al Hilal defended the 2-goal lead they bagged in the first half. While the fans were left disappointed at the outcome, it seems CR7 wasn’t any different either. The skipper was fuming during the post-match presentation as he led his team to receive their runner-up medals.

CR7 did not seem in the best of moods last night following his team’s defeat at the hands of Al Hilal. He was seen heading into the dugout as he quickly changed into the training kit before the final presentation. Cristiano Ronaldo’s frustration was evident as he made angry gestures while walking up the pitch to receive the 2nd-place award. The frustrations are valid considering the high standards he holds. He had a rough day at the office last night, despite playing the entire 90+10 minutes. He took 7 shots in the game, keeping just one on target.

CR7 also missed two vital opportunities during the game, including the chance to score an open goal. Despite that, it is important to note that the player made his return to the side after a long-term break because of his muscular injury. However, the same thing could not be said about the rest of his teammates, who looked like a shell of their former selves last night.

While Al Nassr was high on momentum, heading into the fixture, Al Hilal wasted no time in putting pressure on their opponents. The Roshn Saudi League table-toppers displayed their dominance during the first half. Both Milinkovic-Savic and Al Dawsari took advantage of the Riyadh-based club’s slacking defense in the first half, scoring consecutive goals within a thirteen-minute interval.

Right after that, both Marcelo Brozovic and Anderson Talisca tried to put pressure on the opposition. However, the high tempo did not work out for the team as Sadio Mane and Ayman Yahya missed crucial chances to help their side level things up.
