Virgil Van Dijk Caught Making Bizarre Gesture Towards Referee After Denied Penalty Against Arsenal

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk was in no mood for semantics following his team’s recent outing against Arsenal. Both sides following a nail-biting encounter were forced to share points at the end of the fixture. This is Liverpool’s second consecutive draw, forcing the side to lose their advantage at the top of the Premier League standings. Van Dijk was seen venting his frustrations at the match referee during the game after he denied the Reds an obvious goal-scoring chance.

The first half of the game saw Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard touch the ball with his hands inside his box. However, despite an appeal from the players and the manager, the match official let the game continue, a decision which might have cost Liverpool the game. This set off Van Dijk, who might have lost his calm at that moment.

Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk was not too pleased with his team’s second consecutive draw at home. The Dutchman was also seen visibly frustrated at the match official after he denied the Reds a penalty during the opening moments of the game. Van Dijk was also allegedly seen signaling to the referee, asking if he had a drink.

Van Dijk also opened up on his team’s performance following the game. The defender expressed his disappointment, stating his side did not have the chance to win the game. Van Dijk expressed dismay about Trent Alexander Arnold’s miss but gave Arsenal the credit, claiming they were a tough opposition.

Liverpool star Arnold had the perfect chance to level the game during the second half. With Arsenal caught on the counter, the Englishman had a clean chance to find the back of the net but he failed to convert as his shot rebounded off the crossbar, much to everyone’s horror.

The first half of the game was filled with action as Arsenal fired early, with Gabriel finding the opening goal for his side. Liverpool seemed like they had the perfect chance to level things up in the 20th minute of the game. Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard handled the ball inside the box, which saw the Reds jump in for a penalty. However, the match official let the play continue deciding against Liverpool’s appeal.

Liverpool then fired back quickly, thanks to a screamer from Mohammed Salah leveling the game in the 29th minute. Both teams, following the equalizer, tried their best to get the winner but failed to do so. While Liverpool came pretty close to scoring in the closing minutes of the contest, Trent Alexander Arnold failed to keep his shot on target.
