The moment is from an El Clasico game from the 2011 season. The stake was even higher because it was also the Copa Del Rey final.

Ronaldo silenced Shakira back in 2011!

Back in those days, Shakira has just become popular in the soccer universe for mainly two reasons. Firstly, she sang ‘Waka-Waka’ which was one of the official songs of the FIFA World Cup in 2010. And secondly, she unveiled her relationship with FC Barcelona defender, Gerard Pique. The Colombian star had become a regular presence for every major FC Barcelona game.

Such was the case in the 2011 Copa Del Rey final too. The Latin American star was in the stands patiently waiting for a breakthrough, along with thousands of other soccer fans. The game had extended to extra time after a goalless 90 minutes. In the 98 minute, Cristiano Ronaldo was running past the Barcelona defense after a receiving line-breaking pass from the midfield.

However, the Portuguese soccer legend failed to net the ball. He did get a strong connection, but his shot blazed past the face of the goal. The camera then panned toward Shakira who was happiest and couldn’t stop clapping and mocking the legend.

Little did she know, that this would come back to haunt her. Just five minutes later, Madrid’s Angel DiMaria whipped in a cross from the left wing. Ronaldo was on the receiving end and he made no mistake this time. He slammed the ball into the back of the net with his header. The camera then panned on Shakira’s face and it was worth watching. The Grammy Award winner was stunned after the goal and the smile disappeared from her face. Real Madrid ended up winning that game 1-0.

However, a few fans let her off the hook because she had once revealed that she had just started watching soccer regularly after meeting Gerard Pique.

Shakira’s love for soccer came because of Pique

A few years ago, Shakira spoke about the time when she had just met Gerard Pique. She confessed that she wasn’t the biggest soccer fan before she meet Pique. She told CBS News, “I wasn’t a soccer fan so I didn’t know who he was. But when I saw the video, I was like, Hmm. That one’s kind of cute.” (LAUGH) And then someone decided to introduce us”. Over the years, the Latin American star attended many soccer games with her first child Milan and her mother-in-law.

The soccer fans then also termed both of them as the ‘perfect’ celebrity couple. But a decade later, the fans one day woke up to the news that this ‘perfect’ couple was abruptly breaking up. They then realized that it was because of Pique’s infidelity and Shakira had gotten to know about it in the most bizarre way.

It’s safe to say that both of them are happier wherever they are currently. The Waka-Waka singer is busy taking care of the kids and dissing Pique, while Pique is working on his soccer league and starting afresh with Clara Chia Marti.
