They have completely dominated the Vanarama National League from start to finish in what proved to be a remarkable season. Owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney transformed the club from top to bottom with their great impetus. Moreover, the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary provided a much-needed boost to the club’s fan base. And now, they are gearing up for ‘Welcome to Wrexham Season 2’ of the much-fabled series, which is set to premier in the next few days.

The first season of the TV show saw Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney partnering up to purchase Wrexham AFC. Despite all the efforts to buy the club, there was much work ahead, and the docuseries showed the work behind the scenes at the soccer club. The show is similar to Amazon’s All or Nothing and gives fans an in-depth look at the activities around the club. Rebuilding the stadium, hiring the coaches, and recruiting the players are some of the crucial aspects on display in the docuseries.

The release date for Welcome to Wrexham

Welcome to Wrexham season 2 has been confirmed to premiere on September 12, 2023. Last season, the show aired in August 2022 following the league games and the promotional play-off games.

One thing is for sure is that there will be a season two. Rob McElhenney once explained how there would be 16 seasons of the show, referring to his involvement in the popular series ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’

He mentioned, “Season two will return next year. I have a clause in my contract that stipulates I will not do anything less than 16 seasons of a TV show.” Hence, fans can expect the release date of the show to align in a similar timeframe. 

What was the ending of Season 1 and what to expect from the upcoming season?

Season one of ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ became a massive hit because of the passion and emotions within the show. One expects the same to happen during the second season of the show. The ending of season one ends with the 18th episode, ‘Do or Die.’ After getting into the FA trophy final, fans of the club were in a jolly mood. We can see fans chanting their anthems and having a gala time. However, the game ended in a 1-0 defeat for the club against Bromley. Despite that, the Hollywood stars remained hopeful of promotion.

In the final episode, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson explained how the play-off match against Grimsby Town is ‘all or nothing.’ Yet, the team lost the game in a stunning thriller against Grimsby Town after losing 4-5 in extra time. But, the documentary ends on a high as it motivated Ryan to rise from the National League. At the end of the episode, Reynolds mentions, ‘We’ve got to get out of this f*****g league,’ in the ending scenes. Safe to say they finally accomplished the prophecy. 

How to watch the next edition of Welcome to Wrexham?

Set to be released on September 12, 2023, Fans in the USA can watch the show on FX via Hulu, as plans start at $7.99. Fans in the UK can watch it at Disney+, costing £7.99 per month. The paid plan would cover all the episodes and the trailer, too.

Cast expected to be featured in the new season

Like always, the cast of the soccer club will heavily feature Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. They are the architects of the show and will hope to produce an even more interesting version for season two. The cast of the show will probably be the same as the executive director of the soccer club, Humphrey Ker, would be featured. Moreover, manager Phil Parkinson and players like Paul Mullin, Ben Tozer, Ollie Palmer, and the ever-famous Ben Foster would feature on the show.

Likewise, many celebrities featured in the Racecourse Ground this season, including Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd. The famous Turf Pub, which dried up drinks in their title-deciding match against Boreham Wood, would feature as it did in the first season.
