Argentina came into the final 2026 World Cup Qualifier of the year with a loss in the previous game. But the team churned out the 5-time World Champions at their own home at the iconic Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. One person who felt it was thrilling was Mac Allister, who was quoted as saying in a tweet, “Winning against Brazil at Maracanã in a World Cup qualifier is a p*rn.”

Mac Allister has started in all the games for Argentina in these qualifiers, but he found this game to be the most joyful. The midfielder is best known for scoring the second goal against Poland, which was a decisive game for Argentina to get into the knockout stage. However, the Liverpool player has not been on the scoring sheet in these qualifiers yet.

Brazil’s historic disappointment against Argentina

The game started half an hour after the scheduled time, with the entire crowd behind the yellow jerseys. Brazil dominated the highly physical first half, with two shots from Martinelli saved by Emi Martinez. However, Nicolas Otamendi’s header to the left post gave Argentina the win. Shockingly for Brazil, this is the first time it has lost a World Cup qualifying game at home. The head-to-head results between the two teams are now 43-42 in favor of Brazil.

However, the Argentine defense was ready to negate the home team’s attack, managing to keep the lead till the end. Brazil, however, lost its attacking substitute, Joelinton, to a red card after this foul on Rodrigo de Paul. The 10-man Brazil finally ran out of time, with a couple of crosses attempted by Raphinha at the end.

However, Ronaldo Nazario, Rivaldo, and Ronaldinho are my favorite players and Lionel Messi is the GOAT.
