This could sometimes occur because of an injury or another ailment. Recently, a goalkeeper shockingly dropped to the ground during a game. It was a similar incident to Damar Hamlin from the NFL. While Damar Hamlin managed to recover, the soccer universe lost one of its very own gems.

The tragic incident happened in Belgium. Arne Espeel, a Belgian goalkeeper, shockingly breathed his last breath whilst in action on the pitch itself. The Belgian goalkeeper had just saved a penalty. The fans were up on their feet, applauding and cheering for him. However, Espeel suddenly collapsed on the pitch. The fans then noticed that the 25-year-old wasn’t even responding.

A few weeks ago, NFL fans saw a very similar incident. Every fan’s heart stopped after Damar Hamlin shockingly collapsed on the pitch. To everyone’s relief, the NFL star is now slowly recovering.

What happened to Damar Hamlin?

Earlier this year, Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during a football game. Reports now suggest that the NFL star’s heart actually stopped working for those few crucial seconds. The fans and medics were extremely worried after Hamlin didn’t respond. He was then admitted to the Buffalo General Medical center. Luckily, a few days later, Hamlin showed quick signs of recovery and was recently discharged from the hospital.

However, a recent report suggested that the NFL star will not return to the sport very soon. Even in an interview with Good Morning America, Hamlin revealed that he is still ‘working’ through everything. He admitted that an incident like this also causes a lot of trauma to oneself. But he did assure his fans that he would ‘eventually’ return.
