Tennis star Ana Ivanovic was on the Olympic Channel Podcast earlier this year, where she reflected on various topics. She talked about parenting, retirement, soccer, playing tennis with her husband, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and others. 

The Serbian married the German soccer star Schweinsteiger in 2016. Schweinsteiger was part of Germany’s Euro 2016 squad, where the Germans lost in the semifinals. We see the power couple playing tennis together occasionally. Ivanovic opened up about her experience of playing with Schweinsteiger during and after the COVID pandemic.

After her retirement, most of the time Ivanovic played tennis, it was against Schweinsteiger. Ivanovic, speaking about her experience, said, “He’s very competitive, and he’s still trying super hard. We play every game that he gets 30-love, and he can maybe manage to get a game or two, but I sometimes make him work hard for points and sometimes let him win a game when he deserves it.”

“But, it’s really fun because we played a lot in the lockdown and he got really really good. And it was like maybe we take a little break. It was really fun,” the Serbian added while telling how she enjoys it.

The host of the podcast asked the former French Open winner about playing soccer. Ivanovic was quick to respond that she can’t kick the ball. The tennis star also shared how some of her counterparts used to play soccer to warm up before the game and that she was afraid of twisting the ankle. 

While speaking on the podcast, Ivanovic also spoke about women tennis stars and the pressure they have to handle, citing the example of Ashleigh Barty’s early retirement. Ivanovic says she is a big fan of current number one Iga Swiatek. She praised Swiatek for her style of play. 

Schweinsteiger was part of the broadcasting team at the FIFA World Cup

Bastian Schweinsteiger was recently at the Qatar FIFA World Cup as an expert for German broadcaster ARD. He was part of the ARD from 2019, after his retirement till the World Cup 2022. 

The former FIFA World Cup winner with Germany slammed the German team for not showing intent in the World Cup. Germany bowed out of the tournament from the group stage, leaving the former player unimpressed with their performances.

His assessment of the German team didn’t go down well with the national team coach Hansi Flick, unhappy with the comments. Schweinsteiger didn’t consider the German team as the favorites for the World Cup before the start of the tournament. He thought the team was not good enough. The former Manchester United star also asked to judge the hosts Qatar after the World Cup.
