After their ferocious battle in the Premier League, the Hammers and the Red Devils now faced off in the Carabao Cup. However, unlike the result over the weekend, Manchester United labored at a 1-0 loss, as West Ham found their revenge. The result came as a shock to many fans, as an early-round exit was not on the cards. However, the most frustrated was none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

Notably, the much-awaited clash did not feature Ronaldo, adding to the disappointment of fans. Regardless, even from the stands, the prodigal son looked beyond disgruntled as the visitors outclassed his side.

Cristiano Ronaldo looks irked!

In what proved to be a sensational piece of business, the talented forward joined United in this year’s summer transfer window. Undoubtedly, his arrival elevated the team’s performance, making them serious title contenders. In addition, the signing of Varane and Sancho has also created a sense of relief and rekindled the ambitions of the once disheartened United fans.

After Manuel Lanzini scored the opener during the 9th minute, United failed to bag an equalizer and lost the game, eventually. Notably, Cameras caught Ronaldo up in the stands, clearly frustrated with his team’s performance. This is the second time United has lost a match they were expected to win, rather comfortably. Earlier, they lost to Young Boys in the opening round of the Champions League, which equally shocked many fans.

Although their Premier League campaign saw them rise to the top, their performances in some games have left a sour taste. Grabbing late goals against both West Ham and Wolves shows there is plenty of work remaining.

Signing Ronaldo would help the club reach the levels they want; but, the rest of the squad needs to step up too. Many players did not have an impact yesterday as the team lacked the motivation for a comeback. Bruno Fernandes came in as a second-half substitute, but he too failed to change the dynamics of the game.
