With fans raving about Lionel Messi’s sensational freekick that saw Inter Miami pick up the win against Cruz Azul in the closing minutes of the game, it seems like fellow MLS rivals are as excited as the fans when it comes to La Pulga’s move to MLS.

While Inter Miami are currently languishing at the bottom of MLS’ Eastern Conference points table, Lionel Messi’s arrival could be a big turning point. The David Beckham-owned side has played some sensational football in their last two games and given time, could pose a big threat to the top sides.

Federico Bernardeschi who signed for Toronto FC last summer alongside fellow countryman Lorenzo Insigne is excited by the prospect to play against the former Barcelona superstar.

He said, “It will certainly help the league to grow a lot. Having such a phenomenon is nice. Everyone likes to play against someone like him.”

Bernardeschi who spend the majority of his career in the top flight of Italian football believes that with Messi’s arrival, MLS will reach new heights.

Cloud of uncertainty over Federico Bernardeschi’s future with Toronto FC

Although Federico Bernardeschi has been rejoicing over Lionel Messi’s arrival, his own future in the league is filled with uncertainty. The Italian midfielder has been linked with a return to Italian side Bologna, with defending champions Napoli also taking interest in a rumored transfer.

Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci has confirmed his interest in the midfielder adding that the ball is in Toronto’s court. While the Italian side have been trying their best to secure Bernardeschi’s signature, the player has no plans of leaving the United States.

Talking about the transfer rumors during a recent interview with Sky Sports Italia, Bernardeschi commented that he likes Toronto and has no intention of leaving the city.

He said, “I can say that at the moment I’m a Toronto player and I’m fine here. Should there be any opportunities, I will evaluate them together with the club and with great sincerity.” I feel good in Toronto. The city is crazy and the people who have welcomed me are crazy.”

If Federico Bernardeschi decides to stay at Toronto FC for the season, fans will get to witness the Italian midfielder go head-to-head against Lionel Messi with both Toronto FC and Inter Miami in the Eastern Conference of MLS.
