“Promotion Is Definitely Happening”- Wrexham’s Ollie Palmer Eyes Back-To-Back Promotions as He Details Club’s Popularity

After 15 years of absence, Wrexham was promoted back to the EFL this summer. This happened thanks to the big investment from Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who took over the club in 2021. Wrexham’s popularity remains on the rise, bolstered by their successful TV show, “Welcome to Wrexham” which is now gearing up for a second season.

The club’s ties to Hollywood and their fairytale promotion to the EFL have garnered a massive global fan following for the Red Dragons. Recently, Wrexham’s striker, Ollie Palmer, shared his observations on the positive changes he’s witnessing within the club.

Ollie Palmer talks about Wrexham’s rise in popularity and upcoming season

The striker in a conversation with his teammate Ben Foster and Tom Ochoa on a show called ‘Fozcast.’ They discussed different topics related to Wrexham. One of the topics they discussed was the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary.

When asked about Wrexham’s chances in the upcoming season, the striker confidently said “I want to win the league again, back-to-back champions. That’s what I want. Promotion is definitely happening. We’re definitely getting promoted next season. I fully believe that. But, to do it as champions would be so special.”

They talked about what it’s like to have a documentary team. Palmer said, “It’s mad, but again I go back to the character in that dressing room., it’s not distracting anyone. The documentary guys are a part of the furniture. They’re just there all the time, they’re really lovely people, and they try to stay out of the way; it’s great. A lot of the lads embrace it. It makes it a really fun place to be. That’s why everyone ultimately wants to come here.”

“Why does every league one and championship player that I know now want to come here? Is it really because we’ve just got promoted into League Two? No F*****g chance, right?’ It’s because of everything” the striker added. Wrexham is now in the United States to play four important practice matches. This will help them prepare for their first season in the Football League since 2008.

Wrexham’s rising popularity in America

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have made the team immensely popular in America, thanks to their documentary “Welcome to Wrexham,” which has garnered a substantial fanbase for the club in the US. Many people in the US are excited about Wrexham’s matches, and more than 50,000 fans came to see their first game against Chelsea at The Kenan Stadium in North Carolina. Chelsea won that match 5-0.

During their two-week trip, Wrexham will also play against Manchester United, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Philadelphia Union. After the US tour, they will start their League Two season with a match against MK Dons on Saturday, August 5th.
