The Swiss maestro Roger Federer dived into the new spectrum of the business world as an investor in November 2019. He bought a lucrative stake, which was tentatively worth 50-100 million Euros, in a Zurich-based shoe company called On.

However, until now he has been using Nike shoes on the professional tour. But for the Tokyo Games 2020, Federer is considering On footwear. The exclusively designed shoes by Federer will be called, ‘THE ROGER’ or ‘ROGER’.

Also, with Federer regaining his ‘RF’ logo from Nike, ‘THE ROGER’ shoes are expected to bear his hallmark. With Federer’s engineering insights on the shoes, and with the ‘RF’ label, the shoes are expected to be ideal for a ‘poetry-like’ tennis and balletic footwork on the court.

Clubbing all the above parameters, everything would simply excite the Federer fanbase to purchase those shoes. And from the business perspective, the On company will probably profit the most out of its ‘THE ROGER’ product.

Since the time he turned professional in 1998 Nike has been sponsoring him. Also, during his stay on the junior circuit, the American giant was taking care of his apparel.

But in 2018, as the contract with Nike concluded, Federer signed US $300 million worth deal with the Asian brand Uniqlo. However, Nike is still supporting him with footwear.

I will continue to wear Nike shoes” – Roger Federer

On does not manufacture tennis shoes, and a few months ago, Federer stated about continuing his venture with Nike. But when On is all equipped to deliver perfect tennis shoes, the Swiss wouldn’t mind making a transition.

“Currently I will continue to wear Nike shoes on the court. At some point, once, when I’m not an active player anymore, I will for sure wear an On shoe also on the court, but until then, we have enough time to develop such a model,” Federer once told FAZ Sport.

Until the release of ‘THE ROGER’ shoes, the contract between Nike and Federer will be existing. But upon its launch, probably after Wimbledon 2020, the 20-time major champion will be shifting to On.
