The lack of spectators has certainly brought out a different side in a number of players. One of those players is Alexander Zverev, who apparently had a bit of beef with an on-court reporter.

During his match against Borna Coric, Zverev complained that the reporter was talking too loudly. Apparently, reporter, Brad Gilbert highlighted a few mistakes that Zverev had made. He said, “His second-serve [points won] percentage is low just because of the double faults!!”

This rubbed Zverev the wrong way, and he gave Gilbert a ticking off. The German angrily declared, “You’re talking too loud, man. I can hear every single thing this whole match.”

Alexander Zverev wasn’t finished with his complaints yet

Later on, Borna Coric signaled that he wanted to leave the court because he was sweating a lot. However, the chair umpire did not allow the Croatian to change his clothes, and that set off Zverev again.

Admittedly, the rules allow players to leave the court to change but gives them around 90 seconds in the changeover. Coric had left the court a few times before to change. To make matters worse, this time Alexander Zverev was serving at 4-5. This would suggest a few mind games in the works, and Zverev was getting rattled.

Given that this was a quarterfinal match, it turned out to be quite a bizarre one. Coric drew first blood when he bagged the first set, 6-1. However, Zverev bounced back to take the next two sets in consecutive tiebreakers. Later, he pulled off the fourth set and paved his way to his second Slam semifinal.

Zverev will have to await the result between Denis Shapovalov and Pablo Carreno Busta to know his semifinal opponent. Carreno Busta too was involved in a wild 4th round match where his opponent, Novak Djokovic was disqualified. The top seed had accidentally hit a line judge, and that spelled his doom for the tournament.
