Roger Federer Expresses Disappointment After Laver Cup Gets Pushed to 2021

The coronavirus pandemic has struck yet again, and this time the victim is the Laver Cup competition. The competition will face postponement until September 2021. This is because nobody wants to take any chances in the face of the health crisis. In light of this, Swiss tennis star Roger Federer confessed his disappointment, though he understands the gravity of the situation. In other words, he insists that it was the ‘right thing to do’.

The COVID-19 crisis has already thrown a massive spanner in the works and severely disrupted the tennis calendar. The French Open organisers took over the Laver Cup’s slot, but not by choice. Now, the organisers elected to postpone the competition to avoid clashing with the French Open.

A gutted Roger Federer said, ‘It’s unfortunate that the Laver Cup has to be pushed back a year, but at this stage it’s the right thing to do for everyone concerned,’.

Despite the crushing news, the former World Number one is ‘still glad that Boston is willing to host the event next year. the City would have played host to the 2020 edition of the competition, had the pandemic crisis not descended.

Still maintaining an air of positivity, Federer let slip his excitement to play in Boston. Meanwhile, Laver Cup chairman and Federer’s agent Tony Godsick disclosed: ‘We needed to make a decision now on our event. ‘We know our passionate fans will be disappointed that they have to wait an extra year for the Laver Cup in Boston, but this is the responsible course of action, necessitated by the emerging calendar conflicts.”

Godsick stressed on the need to assure fans, players, sponsors, broadcasters, partners, staff, volunteers and the city in this time. He expressed his gratitude for everyone’s dedication, hard work, support and understanding of the grave situation.

As a parting note, Godsick took the time to reflect on the crisis and his heart went out to the worldwide victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also praised the health officials working on the front lines to keep everyone safe, healthy and happy.

Finally, he confirmed that people who bought tickets for this year’s edition need not fret. This is because the tickets will either be valid for next year or they receive a full refund.
