The 2020 season ended not too long ago and two players were missing for most of it – Bianca Andreescu and Ashleigh Barty. Bianca skipped the entire 2020 season due to injury while Barty pulled out of many events because of the coronavirus pandemic.
They both are set to make a return in 2021 and recently, Marion Bartoli talked about their chances. She started off with Andreescu and said:
“Andreescu more about her knee injury. When you don’t play for over a year and I don’t think she has been able to practice much or to get her physical training at the level she probably wants to. She has a lot of points to defend… That is very difficult to handle psychologically on the pressure side.”

After this, Bartoli went on to talk about Barty’s chances in 2021 and said, “For Ash Barty, because of her game and her craft and her slice, her hands, it might take months probably to get her groove back. But I don’t think she would be that disturbed.”

Bianca Andreescu and Ash Barty 2021
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the WTA came up with a new ranking system for 2020. In this system, players would not have to defend all the points they earned in 2019. However, that won’t be the case in 2021.
Both Barty and Andreescu were successful in 2019 as they won the French Open and US Open, respectively. They have to defend those titles, and as Bartoli said, it could be very difficult.

The one advantage that both players have is that those events are played later in the year. Through many professional matches, they can find their rhythm and hopefully defend their titles.
