The third round at the 2020 Australian Open saw six of the top 10 women’s seeds exit the competition. Among those was World No. 8 Serena Williams, who lost to China’s Wang Qiang.
Serena was considered one of the contenders to win the tournament. But after winning the first two rounds in straight sets, Williams lost the third round 6-4, 6-7, 7-5 to Wang.
After the loss, the 23-time Grand Slam winner’s coach Patrick Mouratogou said that Williams would practice harder as she wants to win another grand slam.

“I completely get that she is angry, I’m disappointed too – it’s normal,” Mouratogloum who has been Serena’s coach since 2012, said. “But this is going to help, because for sure she is going to go back to work even harder. She wants to win a grand slam again, she wants to win several if possible. She will work very hard for that and will work hard every single match.”
“We’re not worried. We just need to understand, find solutions, go back to work – which we will do soon because Serena wants it and we will do everything we can to get it.”

For over three years now, Serena Williams has been chasing Margaret Court’s record of 24 singles Grand Slam titles. She won her 23rd being pregnant with daughter Olympia at the 2017 Australian Open. Since then, she has reached four Grand Slam finals but failed to register her 24th.
Recently, Margaret Court spoke about the chances of Williams crossing her. Court, 77, felt that while reaching 24 titles in itself was a task, beating it remains even more difficult.
