Tennis Players to Seek Government’s Invite Before Flying to Australian Open 2021

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all tennis events in 2020 have had to create regulations. And since the virus is still spreading, events like the 2021 Australian Open will have to do the same.
There has been a lot of discussion with regard to the protocols that will have to be followed there but nothing was official. Now, the Australian Open has finally revealed some details about the guidelines that have to be followed.

According to the guidelines, all players who are not from Australia will have to be invited by the government. The government will only invite players accepted into the Melbourne Grand Slam and they will be invited for a 5-week period.

Moving on, all tennis players will have to undergo a two-week quarantine before playing the event. Many will not be happy about this as they cannot train for those two weeks. However, a while back, the CEO of the event said they were working on an agreement.

“We completely accept that everyone coming from overseas has got to have two weeks in quarantine. What we’re trying to have an agreement on is that we set up a quarantine environment. There, they can train and go between the hotel and the courts in those two weeks,” he said.
If the agreement is successful, we should see many players confirming their participation at the Australian Open. After all, it is one of the biggest events in the sport and nobody wants to miss it. It has definitely been complicated by the coronavirus but hopefully, we will still see a successful event when it begins on January 18th.
